Well, here it is october 2009 and I have landed another job. This is one I don't actually have to hate, like the one that pays my bills. No, this one is something I've wated to pursaue for may years and I am rather lucky that it fell into my lap.
As of October 1st I became a writer for a local online publication known as Tulsa Today (.com). I began my career reviewing a little known musician named Citizen Cope at Tulsa's historic Cains Ballroom, and after that I got the nod to cover Creed and Staind this past Friday night. My regular beat is the sports beat, and with the Oilers getting set to begin their new hockey season it is all coming together at the right time.
I've been writing for about the Oilers for 9 years now and compensation-wise I've only been paid in free hockey games. That's cool because since I first got involved with the team as a fan ticket prices have slowly inched up to where your wallet takes a hit moreso than it did 18 years ago. I'll still write for that site because I am loyal to that site (prohockeynews.com) and I am one who will indeed dance with what brung me, so to speak. In the case of Tulsa Today, however, cash money is involved and that makes this deal that much sweeter.
That's my latest turn of events. More later.
