The first post...

When I was a teenager, one of my favorite books was Frank Herbert's Dune. Like many books, I came to it in reverse, which means I saw the movie before I read the book and if you know the book you know that Dune isn't exactly night-table reading. It's pretty intense. Anyway I mention this because it has one of the best opening lines of any story I've read, delivered by the daughter of Emperor Shaddam IV, Princess Irulan...

"A beginning is a delicate time..."
Wow. Powerful stuff. Speaks volumes about writing though. In the beginning you have to establish your charecters and introduce your reader to them. If you are talking to them in the first person like I am now you have to be their friend and show them around, so to speak. Well, that's what this entry is all about. Here, you get to know me. I just hope it's not boring.
I am at best an ordinary guy. I'm 41 years old and I'm divorced. I am in a loving relationship with a beautiful, smart girl who has 3 kids. I myself have one child, a 9 year old son. My living arrangement is a little different for a person my age, and that is that I live with my mother. Not by choice, but it's not a bad thing. it doesn't interfere with my social agenda with my girlfriend and being that I hope to marry her, it's temporary. Of course, it was temporary before I met her, but that particular form of temporary was a bit longer. I work in corrections and that line of work has consumed twelve of the 20 years I've been in the work force. The other 8 I don't count because two of them were in my first job, which I hated and the other six I forget about because I wasn't any good at what I was doing.
This blog is created for two reasons. First, I need an outlet, some place I can put my thoughts down and make sense of my life. Oh, i know you can do that by other means...yoga, karate, arts and crafts and whatnot, but here I can read it. I get to see ME from another perspective. Secondly, I want to keep my writing talent sharp. I hope I can do both. Anyway, her it is and I hope you enjoy it.
