Politics and apathy. Election 2016.

I have been randomly criticized for not wanting to vote in this year's Presidential election.

I'm hearing the usual rot attempting to persuade me otherwise:

They: "If you don't vote then it's just a vote that could have gone to (insert candidate's name here)!"

Me: "Really?  Since when did the popular vote decide anything?"

They: "It's your civic duty!".

Me: "So is jury duty, but I can't go to jail if I don't vote."

They: "If you don't vote, you have no right to complain!"

Me: "The hell I don't.  First Amendment.   Nice try."

As of this writing there are five serious candidates left.  Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton,  Marco Rubio, Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz.  John Kasich and Ben Carson are technically still running, but the sharks are swimming around them and they'll be cut loose from the lifeboat soon.

None of them are good enough to be President.   There, I said it.  This country has been in existence 240 years and not one of the candidates running are worthy to hold the job, and unless something radically changes my insignificant will not be counted.

The United States is supposed to be the best country in the history of the planet, if you believe the hype.  So why in the name of everything good and sacred do we have idiots running for leader of the free world?  Forgive me for my idealistic position here, but am I the ONLY person in this country who thinks that you have to have something extra to be POTUS?

The reason I think like this is somewhat jaded, I grant you, because I feel that true statesmen should be President.   My opinion...which, by the way is the only one that counts on my PERSONAL blog...is that the person who is elected to the job should unify the country,  not divide it along lines of partisan,  ideological lines.   That means when you win the election, you should be ready to bring the country together by actions, not words and not worry about punishing the side that lost.

The last eight years are a perfect example of that.  So were the preceding eight years.  The sad part is the common man is caught in the middle and is way to stupid to realize it.

That's why the electorate will be evenly divided next week between people who are impressed by someone with ridiculous wealth who thinks they can run the country, and someone of another gender who impresses people who will vote for her just because she's a woman.

George Carlin once said that politicians don't want intelligent people voting in elections.  They want people who will do the paperwork and keep the machines running and the food fresh, devoid of critical thinking.

If they discovered what frauds they are the machine would break down and if they carefully utilize the fear of the machine malfunctioning...keep the country at the "low sweat" stage as it were...they hope to keep us confused enough to vote for them.

Wow...that was quite a rant.  Thing is, it's the truth.  I'm half expecting to be picked up by the Men In Black once this thing hits cyberspace.

Nevertheless,  this registered independent is not voting unless something radically changes.  Election 2016 sucks.
