In forty years of living in Oklahoma I have felt just one (1) earthquake.
I've been through more tornado emergencies than I can count, three major floods, a blizzard and countless years of drought, (including this year), but only ONE earthquake.
It was in early November 2011 and the ground shook here on the east side of Tulsa for about five seconds, rattling the house right before the late news. It was centered west of here and was stronger in the Stillwater area, where an OSU football game had just wrapped up. One of the funnier images from that was Kirk Herbstreit as he was giving a post-game analysis.
Yeah, him.
In the never ending search for people to try and explain why these things are all of a sudden happening and to further try and prove that man owns and controls this planet instead of renting, people blame the sudden upswing of quakes on a petroleum-extraction method known as fracking. It involves injecting water and air into former oil-rich substrata, (geology term, look it up), in order to force oil and natural gas to the surface.
To be truthful I really don't care what's causing them. I just think it's pretty cool.
A year ago I told you about the finger of God tornado that did it's best to try and erase a good part of south central Oklahoma (Moore and El Reno), and the positively ungodly amount of damage they did and lives they took. Compared to that a 4.0 earthquake in Oklahoma is no big deal, really. The part I don't get is the need for people to justify why it's happening with the fracking thing. At the risk of being a "denier" of what's going on I will say right here that I am not a geologist nor do I play one on TV. What I do know is that, as I stated above we RENT this planet, we don't own it.
My best example is that 65 million years ago, dinosaurs went extinct. POOF, all gone. Okay probably not that fast but back then, there was no fracking, very few (if any) humans. MAYBE a meteor wiped them out but that too, was not something man created. My point is mother Earth is in control and we just have to live with whatever she decides to throw at us to try and wipe us out. Tornadoes, hurricanes, flash flooding, haboobs, blizzards, drought and most recently earthquakes.
BRING IT ON!!!!
