Goodbye, Mulligan...

In the last six months we (my mother and I) have lost three cats.

On October 29 2013 my cat Boomhower died, on November 17th my mother's cat Norman died and today we made the decision, based on a cancerous tumor causing him great pain and digestive distress, Mulligan crossed the rainbow bridge to meet his brothers.  He has no pain, he has a full tummy, and he is sitting with my dad in his recliner in heaven, watching Bill Elliott win races now.

Still, it's beginning to sound like a broken record.

If you don't consider your pets people, or you think sentiment of this nature is useless and petty, well, you aren't a human being.  The emptiness in this house is so thick you can poke it with your finger.  What's even more strange is that now, in March 2014, this house is devoid of animals for the first time since 1976.

That's 38 years almost exactly.  I was seven years old when we got our first long-term pet...a little cocker spaniel mix named Duggo.  Since then there has been some form of domesticated animal in this house either cat or dog.

Talk about a shitty day.  A shitty year too.

Goodbye Mully
