Steve Jobs...1956-2011.

Well, karma is a bitch, I suppose.

The same day I write a rant in this volume about technology the man who defined the term (since 1983, at least) went to the great electronics store in the sky.  Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple succumbed to pancreatic cancer earlier this evening.  Technoweenies around the world are in mourning as I write.

When a pioneer like Jobs passes it is customary to honor that person by illustrating what contributions he or she made life on this planet better.  Jobs was one of those guys who will surely be elevated to the likes of Thomas Edison before this time tomorrow night, I'm sure, because his comtirbutions to the technological world are this generation's light bulb.

My age defines this but if there are any kids reading this blog (yeah, right), but you know that Mac laptop you got for Christmas was at one time called the Macintosh and looked something like this:

OMG, I'm kidding, right?

This was the IPod of the "me" decade.  That box to the left was known as a disk drive that saved your whatever on a "floopy disk".  No, not the 3 1/2 inch gizmos from about 10 years ago but something that looked like this monster:

Behold the thumbdrive of the 1980's.  5 1/4 inches across, encased in plastic.  If you played games with one of these sometimes you would use two or three of them.  And your games were 8-bits of sheer wonder.

Okay, enough of the trip down amnesia lane.

Steve Jobs will be missed.  There will be someone to replace him and take the human race so much further than he did, but it's nice to see what he's done for us today.  Good night, Mr. Jobs.  See you in the world of no fatal errors.
