As I have mentioned previously in this volume, from April 1991 through May 1998, I was an employee of the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.
Seven years of my life that saw a number of firsts in my life in a personal sense. Marriage, birth of my deceased first child, and a number of other things but above all that it remains the employer that I have spent the longest time with...seven years altogether continuously.
Had I not been dismissed I would be four years past retirement today. They were some of the most joyful and stressful years of my life where I grew up a LOT and learned to be a true professional.
That is why I am so disappointed when I hear of the foibles of the TCSO today. Moments ago, before I began this blog entry my former boss Stanley Glanz lost a lawsuit brought against him by a former juvenile female who claimed to have been raped in the jail. It is but one incident in nearly a year of incidents that brought shame and ridicule upon a once proud department.
As a former employee, and someone who experienced a lot of the cronyism and witnessed a lot of questionable actions by the main players in the game it doesn't surprise me one bit that the snowball is getting bigger by the day. Of course, when I worked there things were more controlled. Or at least it seemed that way. Maybe it was more intimidating then.
In any case this former officer feels not for those involved...Some of whom are well deserving of the reaping of what they sowed...but for those who just go to work and do their jobs. The thankless jobs no one recognize.
Whoever wins the election had better know how big a mess he has to clean up. I salute and support whoever that might be.
