The day that changed my life forever: January 4th, 2008.

For those unfamiliar with my blog you can expect annual statements about milestones in my life.  This one commemorates the amputation of my right foot on the afternoon of January 4th, 2008 at about 1:30pm.

Like I said in previous blogs on this subject it was a day that will live in infamy for me.  A part of me actually preceded me in death.  When I die, I will not be buried whole.  Morbid references aside it was something I could afford to part with as sick as I was at the time of surgery.  My ex-wife more than once told me that she didn't think I would survive the surgery based on my illness.  Having the effects from a severe gangrenous infection was similar to the flu, which I had a couple times before but you always knew you were getting ahead of it when your fever broke.  That didn't happen with me.

Instead of getting sick, then sicker, then less sick then well is the normal progression of the flu.  You drank a lot of fluids, got rest and and lost work.  I lost plenty of work but I never felt better...it effectively canceled the Christmas holiday period, and it was hell on earth.  Never in my life have I felt so SICK, with no relief.

So six years have gone by.  Thankfully I've had no serious complications which is a good thing especially now.  If you take on the moster and live, you can't help but be happy with what you get once you emerge from the other side.  Taught me a lesson that though the mid will tell you that you are 10-feet tall and bulletproof, the boidy often has different ideas.  You have to roll with the punches.

Year seven as a pegleg begins today.  Where will it take me?  Who knows?
