Oklahoma Weather 2011: It's hot.
I am sure everyone remembers my blog entry about the big time blizzard we had back in February, right?
Well, here we are nearly six months later and we are in the middle of a heat wave.
Today the temperature topped 100 degrees for the 11th day in a row, with no relief in sight. Grass is dead all over town, water rationing is being considered for the first time since I was a teenager and we are having power outages here at the HQ because the power company can't keep up.
It's nuts, I tells ya.
So strange that Tulsa was brought to a standstill months ago by snow and we are rewarded with record breaking heat for our due diligence. Then again, in between we had earth scrubbing, hair-curling tornadoes so we did not jump straight from the meltoff into 100 degree heat. After all, tornado alley had to remind us that it has the floor from March to June.
But we aren't talking about tornadoes here. we are talking about the gawdawful heat.
I remind myself that this will eventually break. Tonight one of the technoweenie weatherheads on the local TV newscast said, jokingly, that "October is coming". It is indeed, but I do remember that sometimes we don't crack 80 until October is about half over, so I remain skeptical.
We'll just have to see.
